The SM-4230 is a next generation
digital waveform modulator providing full-programmable data
processing and advanced waveform creation. The fully digital
implementation provides for the small form/fit of this product
while fully satisfying applications requiring ruggedized
packaging and minimum power consumption.
The modulator is implemented in a industry standard 1U 19
inch rack mountable chassis and provides full status and
control capabilities via a standard RS-232 serial port interface.
Controllable selections include modulation mode, waveform
shaping, data processing/coding functions, ...
Configurable front panel BNC "monitor" ports allow
the SM-4230 to be adapted to a wide variety of applications
requiring access to internal operating signals such as baseband
I/Q waveforms, encoded data/clock signals, auto-baud detect
signals, and others. The SM-4230 is available with either
baseband waveform outputs for use with an external exciter,
or 70/140MHz IF frequencies.
The firmware-intensive implementation of the SM-4230 readily
allows accommodation of custom features. A latest generation
micro-controller combined with a Field Programmable Gate
Array provides for an array of application specific capabilities
via software upgrades only. The unit supports a variety
of modulation formats, including Analog or Digital PM, BPSK,
QPSK, OQPSK, AQPSK, UQPSK, PM/PSK, FM, FM/FSK, or AM Waveform
Processing. The advanced digital processing capability of
the SM-4230 allows significant flexibility to meet changing
requirements with simple reprogramming.
Custom features which can be readily supplied include alternate
modulation formats (QAM, trellis-coded modulation, ...),
specific data formatting (frame sync insertion, checksum
processing), and other data coding formats (BCH, Reed-Solomon,
...).
